Our School – A typical day
A typical day at our school is filled with plenty to do; there are lessons in the morning and activities in the afternoon and evening. Come and experience English with us.
Mornings
In the morning, group classes start at 9.00 am; students usually take 15 hours per week of morning classes (from Monday until Friday) in any of our courses: Academic English, FCE/CAE preparation classes or General English.
Each Monday, you will have a weekly progress test to check how you are doing. We also incorporate learner training and pronunciation exercises through all levels.
Afternoons
Our afternoon options include Business English, IELTS, TOEFL or TOEIC; alternatively you can take five hours a week of Reading and Writing classes and/or five hours a week of Listening and Speaking classes.
Afternoon classes run Monday to Friday until 16.15, but with weekends off you can take the opportunity to visit a neighbouring city or to explore the sights of York!
We also offer three free teacher–led clubs every week – each run by one of our well-qualified teachers: Speaking Club, Writing Club and Listening Club.
Evenings
In the evening we offer an extensive Social Programme with plenty of events. We are happy to answer any of your questions.

Homestay accommodation
Stay with a local host. Living with a host and their family gives you even more contact with English speakers and a real insight into life in York. York is a city of contrasts. On the one hand, as one of the oldest cities in Britain, it’s a place of culture and history, reflected in its winding cobbled streets and beautiful architecture, including the famous York Minster. On the other hand, it’s a bustling, dynamic city, with a busy cafe, bar, pop culture and restaurant scene. Compact, safe and friendly, York has recently been voted the best and most beautiful city in the UK, as well as the UK’s number one food and wine destination.
Our exciting social programme reflects the contrasts of York: events may be to local cultural and historical venues, such as museums, galleries, the theatre or open lectures at the university. We take full advantage of the excellent reputation York has for food and wine, regularly running restaurant or pub nights on the social programme.
Other activities you can enjoy in York include river cruises, scary ghost walks in one of the UK’s most haunted cities, fun at the many festivals, breath-taking views on the Wheel of York or if you fancy a film night, our school is a two minutes walk from the closest cinema!
