Karen Page, Head of School
I have overall responsibility for the smooth running of all departments at Manchester Academy of English. I am heavily involved in operational issues and also the safeguarding and pastoral care of all our students. I enjoy the multi-cultural environment that we have at the school and I work very closely with the Heads of School in our other locations to provide the best experience possible for all our students. I am passionate about my work here as it provides me with a wealth of variety and no one day is the same as another.
Chris Tabor, Academic Manager
As Academic Manager I have overall responsibility for the delivery of all our English language courses. This entails testing students on arrival, making sure they are placed in the correct level for their personal needs, liaising with teachers to assess student progress on a weekly basis and ensuring that all our students are fairly treated and are helped to reach their true potential. I am also responsible for the hiring of the teaching staff, who have daily contact with the students. My other duties consist of teacher and student timetabling and devising and implementing the curriculum and syllabus for different levels in the school. I really enjoy working at Manchester Academy of English as I get to work with so many great people and I meet people from a wealth of different nationalities and diverse cultural backgrounds. It gives me real pleasure to see students achieving their goals and leaving school with a smile on their faces.
Vanna Carter, Director of Teacher Training
My name is Vanna Carter and I hold the post of Director of Teacher Training at Manchester Academy of English. I have been in this job for over 12 years now and I run and supervise CELTA courses of which we run approximately 16 a year (14 full-time and 2 part-time courses). I am also a CELTA assessor and the Main Course Tutor on all our Delta courses (we have run 7 in the last 4 years). I enjoy my job enormously because it is always different and challenging. I particularly like working at Manchester Academy of English as it is a school that offers high-quality courses with a very qualified, expert staff. I am the longest standing member of staff and this must be proof that I appreciate this friendly yet professional working environment.
Joelle Kirkham, Accommodation and Welfare Manager
My role within the team is Accommodation and Welfare Manager. I source accommodation whether it be a reputable homestay host or within a student residence. A large percentage of our students will reside here whilst studying with us and I also ensure their welfare needs are met. I believe all students need to be happy within their accommodation, if not they will not be happy enough to learn and progress. I enjoy the fast paced role of meeting new students and watching their progression whilst learning English with us. Each day here is different, and each day can be a challenge, each week my role has a deadline which I strive to meet. Meeting so many different types of people and understanding their culture is the reason I get so much enjoyment and satisfaction here at Manchester Academy of English.
