Helen Cherry, Academic Manager

I have been working in English language teaching for over ten years since graduating from Cambridge University.  I gained my CELTA at ELC York, and taught in Slovenia, Italy and Japan before returning to York in 2005 to gain my DELTA, becoming Director of the Junior Programme in 2008.  I have worked as a Teacher Trainer (in Thailand and here) and as an administrator, organising courses in the UK and Italy.  I speak French, German and Italian.

Sally Astbury, Student Support Manager

I look after accommodation for our students (mainly homestays) and I am also responsible for student welfare. I am happy to help with any problems that our students may have and I always do this in a friendly and professional manner. In 2007 I was awarded the Welfare Officers' Certificate, accredited by English UK.

Nigel Sale, Teacher and Social Programme Organiser

I have been teaching English Language since 1985, when I worked at a school in Greece. Since then I have taught in Italy, Portugal and Slovenia - and in the UK.  I have worked at ELC York since September 2005, when I returned to the UK after 5 years working for the British Council in Rome as a teacher and course co-ordinator.

Graham Appleton, CELTA trainer

I have taught at ELC York since early 1999 and I am currently a tutor for the school's teacher training programmes such as the Cambridge CELTA.  I have many years of teaching experience, including 3 years in Turkey and Sicily. I also have a PhD in Archaeology and a vast knowledge of York's history.  All of this experience, combined with my cartoon skills, means that our trainees have training they will never forget!

Heather Brothwell, Business Development Manager

I was born and grew up in Africa and lived in India as a child.  I graduated in Spanish from St Andrews, and taught English for 2 years in Venezuela, travelling extensively throughout South America. I studied for a Masters in Latin American Studies, before going to Ecuador and Peru to work as an archaeologist. I practised law for 12 years before training for the CELTA at ELC York in 2008.

Kirsti Reynolds, Registrar

I joined ELC York in 2008 and I am responsible for all student admissions including visa application and related finances. I have six years' experience in senior management in other educational establishments.
