Edinburgh Language Centre

Edinburgh is a breathtaking city of cultural and historic activity, a beautiful panorama of chimney tops, sea and green hills. Every August it becomes home to the world-famous Edinburgh Festivals, revelling in music, theatre, comedy and the arts.

We are delighted we will soon be joining the British Study Centres family to create the largest group of premium language schools in the UK.  While we are busy preparing, we will be taking all enquiries and bookings as usual.

 


Our Edinburgh school was established in 2002 offering a range of high quality English language courses and some of the best facilities in the city.

Located on George Street, the city’s most prestigious street, the school is an ideal venue for developing your English language skills whilst studying in the heart of one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in Britain with everything you expect from a modern capital city on its doorstep.

A typical day learning English at our Edinburgh school

Every day our friendly team of staff are ready to welcome you with a warm hello! Here is an example of a typical day learning English in Edinburgh:

Mornings

09:00-13:00

In the mornings, you will 2-3 lessons of tuition. Each lesson lasts 50 minutes. You will get a mid-morning break with time to grab a coffee at the many nearby local coffee shops, chat to fellow classmates or ask our staff any questions you might have. 

Every week, you will take a progress test as part of your class, to check how your English skills are developing and evaluate which areas of improvement you need to focus on for the week ahead. We also incorporate learner-training and pronunciation exercises through all levels.


 

Afternoons

13:50-16:10

If you are taking a course of 25-30 lessons per week, you will also have afternoon classes. Such courses include intensive General English, IELTS Preparation, General English Plus One-to-One TOEIC or TOEFL Preparation or Cambridge Exam Preparation.

Afternoon classes run from 13.50-16.10 from Monday to Thursday with a break in between. If you are studying electives, you can choose to study for two afternoons per week.

Afternoon-only classes are also available for General English 15 students to help you fit studies around your personal commitments.


 

Evenings

Edinburgh has a fantastic social programme, offering extra-curricular activities from Monday to Friday. Ranging from Edinburgh city tours to Ceilidhs (Scottish dancing), Quiz Nights to Conversation Clubs in the pub or at the park, there are plenty of social activities to enjoy. 

All activities are led by a member of the school team, giving you the chance to get to know us better, and vice versa!

Some activities are free and others incur an additional cost. If you were to take part in all activities throughout the week, you can expect to pay £15-£30 per week.

We understand how important it is to feel safe, comfortable and welcomed in a new country. For this reason we have a dedicated team at Edinburgh Language Centre to help arrange the best accommodation for you, with options ranging from homestay accommodation to a student residence located nearby.

 

 

 

Homestay

Immerse yourself in Edinburgh life with a local homestay host, providing more contact with English speakers and a real insight into life in Edinburgh. Our hosts treat each student as a member of the family, eating together and sharing common living areas.

Location: 15-45 minutes from the school by bus
Bedroom: single or twin
Facilities: shared bathroom, study desk and access to the washing machine and living room
Meals: bed-and-breakfast or half-board
Capacity: maximum 4 students in one household
Internet: available in most homestay accommodation

Explore Edinburgh

Our exciting social programme reflects the history of Edinburgh: we visit museums, galleries, the theatre or attend open lectures at the university.  We take full advantage of the excellent cultural opportunities Edinburgh has to offer, and we regularly run restaurant or pub nights on the social programme.

Other activities you can do in Edinburgh include nature walks, underground ghost tours, enjoy one of the many festivals that take place during the year, day trips to the seaside, shopping and much more!
